چکیده
2. Two patients had amaurosis fugax attacks of the right eye, and five reported brainstem TIAs. 3. Blood pressure was measured bilaterally, with significant differences found in eight patients. In six patients with bilateral subclavian steal, no differences were seen. 4. After surgery, the TIAs stopped. 5. Among the 10 operated patients, seven were symptomatic. Three asymptomatic patients underwent surgery prior to aortocoronary bypass surgery during the same thoracotomy. W. Rautenberg, MD M. Anticoagulation after cardioembolic stroke: to bridge or not to bridge?
BACKGROUND Most patients with cardioembolic stroke require long-term anticoagulation. Still, uncertainty exists regarding the best mode of starting long-term anticoagulation. Design, Setting, and Patients We conducted a retrospective review of all patients with cardioembolic stroke admitted to our center from April 1, 2004, to June 30, 2006, and not treated with tissue plasminogen activator. Pa...
متن کاملTotaled health risks in vascular events score predicts clinical outcomes in patients with cardioembolic and other subtypes of ischemic stroke.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Whether totaled health risks in vascular events (THRIVE) score can be used to predict clinical outcomes and risk of hemorrhagic transformation in patients with special subtypes of ischemic stroke remains an open question. METHODS We analyzed the possible relationships between THRIVE score and clinical outcomes in patients with cardioembolic stroke or noncardioembolic st...
متن کاملTiming of autopsy-confirmed hemorrhagic infarction with reference to cardioembolic stroke.
We studied the temporal profile of hemorrhagic transformation in 34 cases with autopsy-confirmed hemorrhagic infarction who died within 15 days following a supratentorial brain infarct, provided they had undergone computed tomography. It appeared that within 4 days, at least 76% (95% confidence interval 39-100%) of 21 cardioembolic strokes had become hemorrhagic. We conclude that if anticoagula...
متن کاملEarly Rivaroxaban Use After Cardioembolic Stroke May Not Result in Hemorrhagic Transformation: A Prospective Magnetic Resonance Imaging Study.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Early anticoagulation after cardioembolic stroke remains controversial because of the potential for hemorrhagic transformation (HT). We tested the safety and feasibility of initiating rivaroxaban ≤14 days after cardioembolic stroke/transient ischemic attack. METHODS A prospective, open-label study of patients with atrial fibrillation treated with rivaroxaban ≤14 days of...
متن کاملComputed Tomography Perfusion Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Score Is Associated with Hemorrhagic Transformation after Acute Cardioembolic Stroke
Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography (CT) score (ASPECTS) has been applied to CT perfusion (CTP) with good interrater agreement to predict early ischemic stroke, and it can be useful in decision making in acute ischemic stroke. The aim of the present study was to assess the predictive value of CTP ASPECTS of hemorrhagic transformation (HT) in acute cardioembolic stroke. This is a si...
متن کاملInvestigation the frequency of asymptomatic hemorrhagic transformation of infarction in CT scan of acute ischemic stroke patients
Background: Asymptomatic hemorrhagic transformation infarct (AHTI) is known as a complication of ischemic attack and maybe occurs in the entire stroke. However, the role of AHTI in the result of the treatment is still not clear, because it is based on the definition of an asymptomatic and not identifiable. The aim of this study was assessment and evaluation frequency of AHTI in acute ischemic s...
